Brighton
Speedway’s biggest event of the year, the Part Source
Applefest Shootout, kicked off on Friday evening with 138
cars signed in across seven divisions. The night was
highlighted by the 50-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified race in
what was the series’ only visit of the season.
Lindberg
Comes From Behind
Gary
Lindberg was in for an uphill battle after he drew the 11th starting
position for the annual 50-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified
race but he was up to the challenge. The Ridgeway, Ontario
native took the lead on lap 42, passing Ryan Scott (No. 33)
who had led every lap to that point in the race.
The
race got off to a rough start with early cautions and a red
flag in the large 27-car field. Polesitter Scott did not let
those early wrecks faze him as he held off Justin Sharp (No.
8s) for the opening 21 laps. But on lap 22, Sharp spun into
the infield and Lindberg took over the second-place
position. For the next 20 laps, Lindberg and Scott duked it
out in side-by-side edge of your seat racing. Lindberg
eventually took the race, using the high side of the
racetrack to pick up his second win in as many years at the
Brighton Speedway.
