Pecore Scores First DIRT Sportsman Win At Brighton Speedway

For Immediate Release – September 20th, 2013

(Friday, September 20th, 2013) – By Greg Calnan – A first career DIRTcar tour win was on Shane Pecore’s mind heading into Applefest Weekend  at Brighton Speedway. After claiming a non-sanctioned Sportsman win at the 1/3 mile oval in 2009 confidence was high for the current Brockville Ontario Speedway champion. A fast car and a little luck helped Pecore realize his dream as he cashed in on the 35 lap race.

Justin Sharp and Paul Gaboury led the 31 car field to the green flag. Sharp was strong from the beginning and held the lead through the first half of the race. Brad Rouse, Jessica Power and Chris Herbison all stayed close to the leader, but were unable to seriously challenge for the top spot.

Sixth place starter Pecore began to make his move during the mid-stages of the race and reeled in the leader. With plenty of rubber in the lower and middle grooves the top two ran nose to tail in the high line. Pecore tried a number of times to make a pass to the inside, but was unable to get any traction to take the top spot.

A late race caution would take away Sharp’s chance to win as the driveshaft broke coming to the green flag. He pulled to the infield and handed the lead to Pecore. In the closing laps defending race winner Cody McPherson charged to front from his 19th starting position and made a serious run for the win. Pecore though held his ground and captured his first career DIRTcar Sportsman tour win. McPherson held on for second and Jessica Power was third. Brent Bigolo was the hard charger of the race coming from his 22nd starting spot and finishing 9th.

In the TUSA Mod-Lite Canadian Nationals feature event Josh Sliter used some steady driving on the outside groove to pass Tim Anderson for the win. Sliter cashed in on the $500 pay day.

Jason Powers was dominate in round 7 of the Ford Dingwall Memorial Vintage Modified race and claimed the win. In the Pro Stock division Mark Fawcett drove to victory while Brandon Wilkie won the Comp 4 feature and Arthur McAuley was the Stinger winner.

Saturday’s Cool 100 Applefest Shootout 100 has been cancelled due to rain. No rain date will be scheduled. For more information visit www.imagefactor.ca/applefestshootout.
