Brighton,
ON - (September 18, 2019) - The
beginning of fall is soon upon us and with that the Cool 100
Applefest Shootout at Brighton Speedway highlights every
racers schedule. The two-day show will feature the
DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, the DIRTcar Sportsman North and West
Series, Northeast Late Model Alliance second last race, the
Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge Series finale and the Duel
on the Dirt Thunder Stock final battle. On top of this
the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club closes out their
season and there is an invite to Mini Stocks and Comp 4’s
to participate during Friday night’s events as well.
The
collection of series and races to be performed will be
phenomenal with drivers and fans from all over Ontario,
Quebec and parts of the United States.
Friday
night the DIRTcar Sportsman series will see the best from
the North and the best from the West in a combined points
event. Promoter Mark Rinaldi is expecting close to 40
Sportsman teams to descend upon the 1/3rd mile
clay oval in Brighton, Ontario for some high-speed
competitive racing. Driver’s will compete over two
days in a battle for the bushel of apples on Saturday night.
Also
racing on a stacked race card on Friday will be the Eastern
Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club. The 50’s/60’s
Champion is Tim Charland with a comfortable point lead
heading into the weekend. In the 70’/80’s division
the title still up for grabs with only 5 points separating
Steve Billings and Sheldon Hoogwerf.
The
Mini Stocks and Comp 4 cars will be competing for one prize
this Friday night with expected arrivals from the East and
the West in an open invitational. The $300 payout for
this division should entice teams to travel the distance for
this epic weekend of excitement.
Thunder
Stocks teams traveling in from the West for the Insta Panels
Duel on the Dirt Series will have a chance to try out the
track before their final race in the series on Saturday
night. Steve Shaw of Southern Ontario Motor Speedway
sits tied with Brighton’s Justin Ramsay at 310 points
heading into Saturday. Billy Bleich and Donny Lampman
from Humberstone are right behind with 306 and 299
respectively.
A
two-day event for the Vanderlaan Building Products Northeast
Late Model Alliance has 20 pre-registered teams as of noon
on Wednesday with more expected to arrive on Friday.
The series has just three races left, with the final night
scheduled for October 4th at Fulton.
On Friday night the 25-lap event offers $1,000 to the
winner, while the 50 lap Great Crate Race on Saturday night
will see the winner drive away with a $4,000 pay day.
The Everything Small
Engine Canadian Modified / UMP Challenge will host an event
each day this weekend to close out their points battle.
Dennis Lunger sits ahead of Brighton Champion Andrew
Hennessy going into Friday’s event but Kraig Handley is
close behind them. This two-track series between
Brighton and Southern Ontario Motor Speedway has seen races
on neutral territory at Humberstone Speedway, Merrittville Speedway
and Ohsweken Speedway and will finish Saturday night.
The DIRTcar 358 Modifieds
will make their annual visit to the dirt track by the lake
in Brighton. The event does not account for points; however,
it is heralded as a must-race event for series competitors.
The race was created in 2005 as an opportunity for drivers
from both East and West to compete on neutral territory at
the end of season. Track promoter, Mark Rinaldi, along with
Greg Calnan of Image Factor Media worked together to make
the race a marquee. Heading into the 15th edition
of the Applefest Shootout it has definitely become one of
the favourite races on every competitors list.
