2010 Applefest Shootout Weekend Plans Finalized

BRIGHTON, ON - As September quickly approaches Brighton Speedway and its fans are anxiously awaiting the return of DIRTcar Sportsman and DIRTcar 358 Modifieds to the 1/3 mile clay oval in central Ontario. Weather has affected the event the past two years. When you combine that with the fact it’s the only visit the high horse-powered DIRTcar Modifieds make to Brighton it adds to the anticipation for the fans.

Smylies Independent Grocers’ will present the DIRTcar Sportsman Cup on Friday September 24th. The race will be a qualifier for the Town and Country 30 Lap event at the Syracuse Mile as part of Super Dirt Week in early October. Joining the DIRTcar Sportsman for the first time ever at Brighton Speedway will be the NYDCA and TUSA Mod-Lites along with the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club, the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4 and the Quinte Towing Stingers.

Saturday will mark the return on the Benson Autoparts 358 DIRT Modified Shootout presented by ImageFactor.ca. The mighty 358 Modifieds will return for a scheduled 50 laps, $2,000.00 to win event that even with gloomy skies in 2009 drew a strong field of 23 cars. The likes of “Mr Smallblock” Pete Bicknell, “The Pocket Rocket” Danny O’Brien, “Mighty” Matt Williamson, Tim O’Brien, Brian “Slim” MacDonald, Kyle “the Inferno” Dingwall and more are expected to return to this seasons edition after going home rained out one year ago.

Due to the rainout last season, the 2009 Lucas Oil Clash for Cash will be held as the first race of the evening on Saturday, September 25th. With this all-star event being held over from last year the 9 guaranteed starters from 2009 will again be locked into the starting grid with a tenth spot being up for grabs. The nine guaranteed starters for the race are Pete Bicknell, Chad Brachmann, Matt Williamson, Danny O’Brien, Tim O’Brien, Todd Stewart, Dan Jalbert, Brian MacDonald and Kyle Dingwall.

Due to a rainout on Saturday, July 17th the Summer Scorcher will be joining the 358’s on Saturday Night racing card. The event includes a 40 Lap DIRTcar Pro Late Model $1,500.00 to win race, the IMCA/Canadian Modified Shootout $1,000.00 to win event, plus the Brighton Speedway / Merrittville Speedway Duel in the Dirt $1,000.00 to win race for Street Stocks. The NYCDA and TUSA Mod-Lites will also return for their second night in a row for what should be an action packed night at Brighton.

“We are excited to have so many different types of racing taking place right here at Brighton Speedway for Applefest” states track promoter Mark Rinaldi. “We look forward to drawing a lot of out of town drivers and fans to the Brighton area for what is already a huge weekend for the town.”

The weekend is guaranteed to be filled with non-stop racing action due to the extra racing added to the schedule. As such, the Saturday night start time has been bumped up to 6pm.
